Minnesota Health Insurance Open Enrollment: Tim's Tips for Getting Covered (Nov 1 Start!)
Hey there, Minnesota friends! Tim here from VitalShield Insurance Services, and I've got some exciting news – tomorrow kicks off open enrollment season! That's right, November 1st marks the start of your chance to get covered or make changes to your health insurance for 2026.
Don't Sleep on These Important Dates
Listen, I've been helping Minnesotans navigate health insurance for years, and timing is everything. Here's what you absolutely need to know:
- November 1, 2025 – January 15, 2026: Your open enrollment window
- December 15, 2025: The magic date – enroll by then for coverage starting January 1st
- December 16 – January 15: Enroll during this period for February 1st coverage start
Miss that January 15th deadline? You're looking at waiting until next year's open enrollment unless you qualify for a special enrollment period.

Why I Always Tell My Clients to Review Their Coverage
Every year, I have folks walk into my office saying, "Tim, my plan worked fine last year – why should I change anything?" Here's the thing - insurance plans change annually. Your medications might not be covered the same way, your doctors could be in or out of network, and premiums shift.
That's why I make it my mission to sit down with each of my clients and review their options. We look at what worked, what didn't, and what's new for 2026.
The MNsure Advantage (And How I Make It Even Better)
Minnesota's got MNsure, our state's health insurance marketplace, and honestly, it's pretty great. Most of my clients qualify for some kind of savings – whether that's lower premiums or reduced out-of-pocket costs. But navigating all those options? That's where I come in.
Instead of you spending hours trying to decode insurance jargon, I translate everything into plain English. We'll look at your specific needs – maybe you need better prescription coverage, or you're planning a family, or you just want the peace of mind that comes with great coverage.
What to Bring When We Meet
I always tell my clients to come prepared with:
- Photo ID (driver's license works great)
- Social Security cards for everyone you're covering
- Any current insurance cards
- A list of your medications and doctors
Having these ready makes our appointment smooth and efficient.
We are MNSURE assisters and have on exchange and off exchange plans as well as private plans.
Go to MNsure.org and go to "assign this assister" and enter this seven - digit number 5529863
Once we have this info in MNSURE we can compare all the options available on MNSURE and any off exchange options.
